Come out for a great afternoon of baseball and family fun! Tampa’s best youth baseball and softball players will compete in their very own home run derby in the Battle For The Bay at Plant High School, all benefiting the Alonso Foundation!

New York Mets All-Star First Baseman, 2x MLB home run derby champ, and Plant alum Pete Alonso and his wife Haley have created this first annual event which will feature food, games, and a special home run exhibition by Pete!

The Battle for the Bay home run competition will feature athletes from five age groups (12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 years of age), in both baseball and softball. The event will feature a select number of participants from local little leagues in District 6 and Tampa area travel ball programs. Participants have been pre-selected and will be announced prior to the competition.

  • Ticket sales will close at 11:59pm on Friday, January 13th. On-site/walkup ticket sales will not be available on event day.
  • EVENT TIMELINE:

Note: Timing subject to change based on the flow of the competition

    • 2:00PM – Parking/Gates open
    • 3:00PM – Opening ceremonies on the baseball field
    • 3:30PM – Youth competition begins for softball and baseball on their respective fields (both competitions will run simultaneously)
      • 3:30PM – 3:55PM – 12-year-olds
      • 3:55PM – 4:15PM – 13-year-olds
      • 4:15PM – 4:35PM – 14-year-olds
      • 4:35PM – 4:55PM – 15-year-olds
      • 4:55PM – 5:15PM – 16-year-olds
    • 5:15PM – Closing ceremonies and trophy presentation to each age group winner for softball and baseball on the baseball field
    • 5:45PM - Home Run Exhibition with Pete Alonso and other MLB players on the baseball field
    • 6:00PM – Event ends
  • Folding chairs are permitted for the General Public “Standing Room Only” viewing areas
  • PARKING:
    • On-site event parking is available at the Plant High School lot located off of Dale Mabry Highway at W San Carlos Street.
    • The parking lot will be open starting at 2pm
    • Parking is $3 per vehicle – cash and cards are accepted
  • FOOD & BEVERAGE:
    • Food and beverages will be available for purchase onsite throughout the event via local food trucks
    • Please plan for cashless transactions for food & beverage
  • ENTERTAINMENT:
    • Various kid and family-friendly activities will be available throughout the event from the Fan Fest area, located in between the baseball and softball outfields
    • Custom Battle For The Bay merchandise will be available for purchase in the Fan Fest area, while supplies last. Please plan for cashless transactions for all merchandise.

WEATHER PLAN:

  • This event will be held rain or shine; however, if the weather is forecasted to include strong winds, rain and/or thunderstorms, the event reserves the right to postpone to a later date or cancel.
